Grover Essentials - Bedding Glossary_ Defining Terms Hospitality Business Owners Should Know

by Princy Kumar on December 01, 2020

Most people desire to have a perfect bed. Sleeping in a comfortable and relaxing bed after a tiresome day is often enough to fade all the exhaustion away. A comfortable bed helps people sleep faster and longer. However, having the perfect bed frame or bed mattress is not all that it takes to give them a comfortable rest. You also need to provide them with the right beddings to give them the added softness, warmth, and protection they need.

If you are an entrepreneur running a hospitality business, you need to familiarize yourself with the bedding terminologies and how they differ in functionality. Having background knowledge about these essentials can help you find the right items to include in your facility. Here is a mini bedding glossary for you.

The Basic Parts of Beddings

  • Mattress Cover and Protector

  • The bed mattress needs protection and coverage to keep it clean and free from dust, sweat, and allergens for a long time. Instead of washing the mattress, you may only need to take out and wash the cover and protector. Check out these hypoallergenic and waterproof mattress protectors we have.

  • Bed Sheet

  • There are three types of main sheets your bed should have:

    • Fitted Sheet - The fitted sheet is the first layer you cover your mattress. It has an elastic band around its corners that makes it fit perfectly to your foam.
  • Flat or Top Sheet - This is the second layer of sheet found on your mattress. Its purpose is to add a decorative layer to your bed. Usually, the end of this sheet is tucked under the bed, and you can tuck yourself inside it for added warmth at night.
  • Pillowcases - Your pillows would need protection too. Make sure to know how many pillowcases you need for your bed. You can either match it with the rest of your bed sheet or use a design that would stand out. If you need a hypoallergenic pillow protector, you can check our products here

  • Accessories for Added Comfort

Beds in hotels are always comfortable because you use different layers of comforters. These additional bedding accessories bring out the different levels of softness in the bed. There are four kinds of bed layers you can add for various purposes:

  • Quilts - Quilts are a three-piece bedding accessory. It has a bottom sheet, an inner batting, and a top sheet. Quilts are often used on cold months and can be paired with either a duvet or comforter for added warmth. Its outstanding feature is the visible stitches you will notice in its designs.
  • Duvet - Duvet is a soft, lightweight bed cover that is generally filled with synthetic fibers like feather and wool. It is like a comforter, but a lighter and flatter one. If you want to change the style of your bed easier, a duvet is what you need to add to your beddings.
  • Comforters - This is the fluffy blanked on top of your bedsheets. They are usually the heaviest part of the beddings. Unlike a duvet, the fabrics for comforters are not flat, but they are filled with synthetic fibers for a warming and soft effect.
  • Coverlets - Coverlets are non-reversible, lightweight bedspreads that are usually used as decoration on topmost of the bed. They can be folded and often placed at the end of the bed to serve as an accent.
  • Conclusion

If you want to provide your customers with an excellent bed experience as they stay at your accommodation, you must use the basic beddings and other needed accessories like what we’ve discussed above. Familiarize yourself with each terminology and explain to them how each can help make their sleeping experience better.
